Durian. Rains with medium to heavy intensity continue pouring in North Luwu regency in Indonesia’s South Sulawesi on July 17-18 while search and rescue operation has been ongoing to find those who are missing from July 13 flood that hit the regency.
The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said on July 18 that the death toll from July’s flood has reached 36, while 13 people are reported missing.
Separately the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said there are 67 people are reportedly missing.
BNPB warned local authority on July 18 to take precaution and prepare mitigation plan for possible natural disaster due to weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on possibility of the rain to fall in the area until July 21.
Possible more victims will be found as hundreds of houses are covered by more than 2-meter high mud, BNPB spokesman Raditya Jati said.
Some victims are believed have been dragged by rivers’ currents.
Almost 14,500 people are now displaced and taking shelters at three districts in North Luwu.
