Boat Sank Near Indonesia’s Buton Island, 15 Killed And Dozens Survived

Durian. A small inter-village passenger boat was sank around early Monday morning in the waters of Mawasangka Tengah Bay, near Buton Island, in Indonesia’s Southeast Sulawesi province, in which 15 people have died and 33 others were survived, according the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

The search and rescue operation to find the victims was resumed on Monday afternoon. No information has yet been provided on the cause of the accident, but the small-wooden boat was likely over capacity.

According to Basarnas, no life jackets were provided on the boat and it seems that all passengers and two crews were only standing during the journey as the  boat was packed not only with passengers but also with vehicles.
