Indonesia’s Mt. Lewotobi Laki Erupts, 6 Killed

Durian. At least six people have died and thousands of residents are displaced after Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores regency, Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara erupted on Sunday evening through Monday.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Monday, 4 Nov. 2024, 14 villages in three districts are affected by the eruption, causing over 2,700 households or equal with over 10,200 lives are displaced.

In a video, seen by TBD, the eruptions burning several houses.

“There are six bodies have been identified,” spokesperson of the BNPB Abdul Muhari said in a written statement.

Due to the impacts of the eruptions, Indonesia’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has increased the 1,584 mdpl volcano’s alert status to the top level.

No activity is allowed in the radius 7 km from the top of the mountain and people who are living the slope of the volcano warned from future eruptions and cold lava floods potential.

Local residents are urged to wear health masks for healthy reasons. (***)
