Durian. Iranian state media on Monday 20 May confirmed the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in a mountainous area in Eastern Azerbaijan Province.
Later in the day, the government of Iran officially announced the death of the president at the Imam Reza Shrine. He died at 63 years old.
The helicopter was returning from Iran-Azerbaijan border when it crashed.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Governor of Eastern Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati were among the President Raisi entourage and onboard the helicopter.
Rescue teams that reached the location of the crashed-helicopter said no sign of life.
The helicopter crashed in a bad weather condition. (***)
