Durian. Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday 20 May kicked off the 10th World Water Forum that was continued with a High Level Meeting in Bali.
“No water, no agriculture, no life, no growth. For this reason, water must be properly managed because every drop is precious,” President Widodo said in his opening remarks, explaining about the importance of water for the world as the global warming threats many areas to be dried.
President Jokowi encouraged the global community to promote and develop the local wisdom on the use of water such as subak watering tradition in Bali’s agriculture system in Indonesia. The watering tradition is recognized as the world cultural heritage by UNESCO and it has been practicing by the Balinese farmers since 11 century.
President Jokowi also highlighted the importance of collaboration in managing water by giving Indonesia’s example in handling waste in Citarum River.
Indonesia co-hosts the 10th World Water Forum that is aimed to strengthen cooperation among water stakeholders and to formulate firm actions for inclusive and sustainable water management.
The President of World Water Council Loic Fauchon in his remarks during the opening ceremony said it’s urgent do more to save water.
“We need to do more, if we want to save water for peace and prosperity. We need to be water warriors, respecting nature and water, to promote water security policy worldwide,” he said.
At least 13 delegations attend the 10th Wold Water Forum or WWF. (***)
