President Widodo Appoints New Ministers, Advisers

Durian. Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday in Jakarta appointed and inaugurated a new minister and five deputy ministers as well as two new president advisors in the latest cabinet reshuffle as he is expected to end the presidential tenure in October 2024.

Budi Arie Setiadi, who is previously deputy minister of villages and under developed regions,  was appointed as the new Communication and Informatics minister. He is replacing Johnny G. Plate who is under the Attorney General Office’s detention for graft allegations regarding infrastructure development project for 4G network’s Base Transceiver Stations (BTS).

Besides Budi, President Widodo also sworn Pahala Nugraha Masyuri as the deputy foreign affairs minister, Nezar Patria as the deputy communication and informatics minister, Paiman Rahardjo as the deputy villages and under developed regions minister to replace Budi, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani as a deputy state-owned enterprises minister to replace Pahala and Syaiful Rahmat as the deputy religious affairs minister.Categories

Before taking his post as a deputy minister, Rosan is Indonesian Ambassador to the United States. While, both Budi and Nezar are former journalists.

“We only have a short period of time, only have less than one and a half years, therefore, I want firstly at the Communication and Informatics Ministry to prioritize the BTS (case). We respect the ongoing legal process, but the completion of BTS must keep continued,” President Widodo said in the inauguration remarks.

President said he appointed Nezar as the deputy communication and informatics minister to support Budi, considering Nezar’s experiences as a journalist including as the editor in-chief of the Jakarta Post.

On Monday, President Widodo also inaugurated two new president’s advisors – Djan Faridz and Gandi Sulistiyanto Soeherman.
