Tsunami Warning Issued by Indonesia’s Agency Post Magnitude 7.6 Earthquake

Durian. The Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a tsunami warning on Friday, 10 Oct. 2025  following a magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Philippines waters.

The agency later reduced the parameter of the tremor to magnitude 7.4 in which the epicenter was 275 km Northwest Karutung Island in Indonesia’s North Sulawesi in 58 km depth.

Videos viral on social media on Friday show the earthquake has caused residents in the Philippines panic and the tremor was strong.

“The model analysis shows this earthquake has tsunami potential with alert status for Talaud Islands, Bitung City, southern part of North Minahasa(regency), and Sipiori,” the BMKG warned.

The people were called to stay calm and avoid crack and damage buildings.(***)
