Durian. Indonesian President Joko Widodo was sworn in for his second and final five-year term in office on Sunday (20/10). Speaking before members of parliament and regional world leaders, including Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the President expressed his wish for Indonesia to be in the top five in global economy by 2045.
“We have done some calculation. That target really makes sense and it is very likely for us to reach,” Jokowi, as he is popularly known, said.
He urged the nation of more than 270 million people to work hard, fast, and be productive. Further, Jokowi also criticised bureaucracies who made false reports during his first term.
“Very often, bureaucracies reported that a program has been executed, fund has been spent, and accountability report has been completed,” he said. “But upon checking it on the field, after I asked people, it turned out they have not received the benefits.”
Together with Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Jokowi will be focusing on five programs in this new term. Human resources development being a priority, followed by continuing work on infrastructures, cutting red tape, providing more job opportunities, and creating economy transformation.
The popular leader won the April 2019 presidential election by securing 55.5 percent of total votes defeating rival former army general Prabowo Subianto.
