Durian. President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday, 25 March 2025 announced that Indonesia to join the New Development Bank (NDB), a multilateral development bank that was established by members of BRICS in 2014.
“And after evaluation by our Minister of Finance and our discussion, I’ve decided on behalf of the Indonesian government to join the New Development Bank and to follow the procedures and the requirements that have been given to us,” President Prabowo said in a press conference after meeting Dilma Rousseff, the president of the NDB at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
The NDB’ initial capital was US$100 billion as the contribution from the founder countries of the BRICS. Indonesia officially joined BRICS on 6 January 2025.
President NDB welcomed the decision and said that Indonesia is important for BRIC’s bank.
“I am very proud that we have this achievement when I am the president of NDB because in our priorities, Indonesia is one of the first because Indonesia is a very important country in this region and in the world and for the BRICS’ bank,” she said. (***)
