Durian. During a police raid on a cockfighting gambling in Indonesia’s Way Kanan Regency in Lampung, three police officers were shot to dead, suspected by one of the owners of the arena whom is a soldier, on Monday, 17 March 2025 at Karang Manik Village.
Three victims are including head of a district police office in the area of the raid, Negara Batin district.
The raid was took place at 4.30 pm local time on Monday when suddenly a series of shots heard, and the bodies were taken from the crime side in the evening hours.
“It’s true, there is a shooting incident when 17 police personnel from Way Kanan Regency Police came to a cockfighting gambling location and when they were on site an unidentified gunman opened fires, causing three police personnel,” Senior Com. Police Yuni Iswandari, spokesperson of Lampung Police Office said in a written statement on Monday evening.
Evacuation to the survivors were taken, while the bodies of the victims were taken to Lampung Police Hospital to be examined.
The autopsy result on Tuesday shows the victims were shot in their chest and head, according to Police DVI unit.
In Jakarta on Tuesday, 18 March 2025, Coordinating Minister for Political And Security Affairs Budi Gunawan said the National Police Chief and the Military Commander were told to give harsh punishment to the actors.
“It was very reprehensible acts, shooting with bullets, causing the death of three police personnel from district or regency police office of Way Kanan,” Buddy said.
Separately, Lampung Police Chief Inspector Gen. Helmy Santika ensure that the investigation of the case will be transparent and police will work together with the TNI.
“We will uncover this case transparently. We will cooperate with commander of the 043 Military District Command Garuda Hitam and Military Police of Sriwijaya Military Command to investigate, including to identify the perpetrators,” Helmy said on Tuesday in Lampung.
The cockfighting gambling arena is operated by two soldiers and on Tuesday afternoon, according to local media, one of them had surrendered himself to the local military police and another was arrested at his house in Way Kanan, Lampung as a video about the arrest spread on vary social media platforms.
The incident was occurred when many civil society groups in Indonesia have been showing their rejection toward the revision of TNI Bill, in which some articles in the revise draft showing the possibility of returning military into politics and governance businesses. (***)
