Durian – On 11 June 2025, Ukraine will mark its 33 years of bilateral relation with Indonesia, when the war due to Russia attacks continue, therefore, it asked Indonesia to make a pressure to Russia to end the war.
According to Yevhenia Shynkarenko, charge d’affairs of the Ukrainian Embassy in Jakarta, Ukraine notice the importance of Indonesian voice in global stage.
She explained that Ukraine-Indonesia relations has started even longer than 33 years, when the breadbasket of Europe was still under the USSR, supporting the independence of Indonesia to be recognized by countries in the United Nations.
“That’s why our cooperation in supporting each other started not now, not 33 years ago, but much longer and now we see that Indonesia as a friendly nation to us, supports Ukraine, supports Ukrainian independence and sovereignty and we really appreciate it,” she said.
Shynkarenko said that Indonesia is a reliable international player and seen as a strong middle power player among international community.
“We believe that your voice is very important and that’s why we every time ask Indonesia to be vocal about this case, to help us, to make a pressure to Russian Federation to stop the war,” she said.
Since Russia launched its full scale invasion to Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the world has been trying to asked Russia to end the war or at least ceasefire and the negotiation is still ongoing, however, according to Shynkarenko, it seems that Moscow doesn’t really want to end the war.
Up to now Russia continue attacking Ukrainian cities and villages every day with missiles and drone attacks. (***)
