Millions of Indonesia Vote For New President

Durian. Millions of Indonesians heading to polling stations today, 24 Feb. 2024 to vote for the country’s next president and legislators from various levels.

The polling stations open from 7a.m. to 1p.m., but some in Jakarta and surroundings started receiving voters late due to floods after raining that poured the Greater Jakarta since early hours of Wednesday.

Over 204 million Indonesians out of total population of more than 270 million are allegable to vote, according to data from the General Elections Commission or KPU.

There are 820,161 polling stations placed across Indonesia and 3,059 others are overseas for Indonesia’s 2024 elections.

Three-pair of presidential candidates compete to lead the country. They are former Jakarta governor  Anies Baswedan and running his mate, Chairman of the The Nation Awakening Party or PKB Muhaimin Iskandar; Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and running mate the Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka; and former Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo and former coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs Mahfud MD.

Voters also vote for their provincial representatives, legislators for the House of Representatives in national, provincial and regency or municipal levels, excluding people of Jakarta whom only vote for legislators in national and provincial level. (**”)
