Durian. Search and rescue operation of Indonesia’s passenger aircraft Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 that was crashed on Jan.9 at Thousand Islands, Jakarta has ended on Jan.21, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) that has led the joint operation announced.
‘’Search and rescue operation on crash Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 is officially closed,’’ Head of Basarnas Bagus Puruhito said at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta.
However, the National Commission for Safety Transportation’s (KNKT) team will continue searching for cockpit voice recorder (CVR), Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said during the event.
Divers in the search and operation team have found the aircraft’s flight data recorder (FDR).
Flight SJ-182 was lost contact with traffic air control at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten on Jan.9, four minutes after taking off for Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The airplane carried 62 people – 50 passengers including seven children and three babies and 12 crews – crashed above the waters of Thousand Islands regency, Jakarta.
KNKT has been working to analyst the cause of the crash.
More than 300 bags contain of body remains have been brought to Police hospital in East Jakarta to be identified by disaster victim identification (DVI) team.
As of Jan.21, DVI team has identified 47 victims from finger prints or DNA match method, The National Police (Polri) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono said on Jan.21 at the police hospital.
Though the search and rescue operation has ended, victims identification process will continue, Hartono explained.
More than 30 bodies have been taken by victims’ families to be buried.
