Indonesia Sets New Task Force to Reduce Covid-19 Case, Escalate Economy Activities

Durian. Indonesian government on July 20 has e established a new task force to increase covid-19 pandemic mitigation and the economic recovery process, aiming to reduce the case number and to escalate the economic activities.

State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir was assigned by President Joko Widodo to lead the task force daily activities.

The new task force has duty to monitor the national development of covid-19 including in the area of health equipment availability, vaccines and antibodies development as well as the multi-years economic programs, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said in Jakarta on July 20.

Indonesian state -owned enterprises  contribute one third of the national economic activities ranging from public services, distribution of goods, mining, electricity and telecommunications.

“This is large responsibility due to its high stakes. Between the choice of failure or success, it is celar that we would commit towards success. We must be sure of that. Many countries have seen success in repressing the virus and reviving their economics. Seeing that, we know that it is possible and can be replicated,” Thohir said in a statement on July 20.

As of July 20, Indonesia has recorded 88,214 positive cases, which is the largest number among Southeast Asian countries, with 46,977 recovered cases and a total of 4,239 deaths due to covid-19 virus.

At the same time, the government has allocated a budget of Rp695.2 trillion ($47.8 billion) for economic recovery, which has been badly affected by the pandemic since March 2020.
