Durian. The Indonesian government has set a plan to reopen schools in July, estimating that five million teachers will have been vaccinated by the end of June.
Education and Cultural Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim said in a dialogue on Mar.3 that if the vaccination target for educators is met, then face-to-face learning can begin again at the start of 2021/2022 academic year. More precisely, on the second or third week of July.
Furthermore, the Minister added that “rotational system” will be implemented to ensure the enforcement of strict health protocols. The system will see 50 percent of students coming to class and the remaining 50 percent following the lessons online.
And as of now, schools are still given the flexibility to manage their School Operational Assistance fund, or Dana BOS, but he encouraged them to utilize the fund to prepare for the coming normal learning process.
“BOS fund can be used in preparation of face-to-face learning. And as vaccination has started, [we] encourage schools to open,” the entrepreneur-turned-minister explained.
Meanwhile, Makarim also revealed that the government will provide internet data assistance to support the currently-ongoing online learning. The Education and Cultural Ministry will start distributing the aid on Mar.11, and the program will continue for the following three months.
The Ministry estimates 30 million Indonesian students to benefit from the program, which was a continuation of a similar scheme, first rolled out in September 2020.
