PM Sunak, World Leaders Congratulate Prabowo For Winning Indonesia’s Presidential Election

Durian. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has sent a congratulatory letter to Prabowo Subianto for his success to win Indonesia’s 2024 presidential election as posted on British Embassy in Jakarta’s Instagram account on Sunday, 18 Feb. 2024.

Sunak’s letter was handed over by British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey who earlier on Friday has met Prabowo also to conveyed his congratulation.

Indonesian has conducted its 2024 general elections on 14 Feb. 2024 to elect the new president and vice president, legislators and senators.

Quick count from various pollsters have shown that Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka win the presidential election gained over 55 percent votes, while the real count ongoing.

“I would like to offer my sincere congratulations on your success in the Indonesian presidential election this week,” Sunak said, adding that this year will mark 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between UK and Indonesia.

He reiterated that the UK will continue to work with Indonesia on key issues, including climate change.

PM Sunak was not the only world’s leaders that have conveyed congratulatory messages.

Through his official account at X, Prabowo said several state leaders had congratulated him for the election result through phone conversations since 15 Feb. 2024. They were Australian PM Anthony Albanese, Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong, Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

PM Albanese in his official account at X said,”I was honoured to be the first foreign leader to speak today (15 Feb.) with Prabowo, who has a clear lead in official and unofficial counts, about my ambition for the future Australia-Indonesia relations”.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has also congratulated Prabowo for winning Indonesia’s presidential election. (***)
