Indonesia Extends Restriction of People Movement in Java-Bali to Feb.8

Durian. Indonesian government on Jan.21 decided to extend the restriction of people movement (PPKM) in Java and Bali Islands to Feb.8, considering the increasing of covid-19 confirm cases.

Erlangga Hartarto, head of National Committee for handling covid-19 and economic recovery said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian will issue a ministerial order related to the decision that was taken in a limited cabinet meeting in president office in Jakarta.

The government has imposed PPKM since Jan.11 and should be ended on Jan.25 at seven provinces – Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java and Bali.

From four parameters to determine the restriction – mortality rate is above national average of 3 percent; recovery rate is below national average of 82 percent; the number of active case is below national rate of 14 percent and hospital occupancy rate for ICU and isolation is above 70 percent – Banten and Yogyakarta have showed the declining of confirmed cases.

Indonesia has started national vaccination program of covid-19 on Jan.13.

Though PPKM has been implementing, the number of confirmed case is still increase. As of Jan.21, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) recorded 951,651 of total cumulative of confirmed case including 27,203 deaths.
