Flash Flood Hits Indonesia’s Ternate, 16 Die

Durian. Flash floods hit Ternate municipal in Indonesia’s North Maluku in early hours on Sunday, causing at least 16 have died and three others are still missing, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency or BNPB said on Monday, 26 August 2024.

From the 16 bodies, three of them have yet identified. Meanwhile, eight people wounded due to the disaster.

According to the agency data, 25 houses have badly damaged and survivers have been placed in four temporary shelters for safety.

“The BMKG (the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency) forecast on rain potential that likely to pour into North Maluku province, particularly in Ternate and surroundings,  from medium to heavy intensity. Therefore, the people are urged to be alert on the possible upcoming floods,” Abdul Muhari, spokesperson of the BNPB said. (***)
