Durian. The government of Indonesia is reducing prison-term sentences to 176,984 inmates, including juvenile offenders, in which 3,050 of them were officially released, on Saturday, 17 August 2024 as the country celebrates its Independence Day.
The sentence reduction for the inmates was announced by the Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly in Jakarta.
The government of Indonesia gives sentence reduction for inmates, who had show good behavior during their correctional period, every main religious celebrations and in the Independence Day.
By reducing the prison term of nearly 177,000 inmates, the government saves over 274.3 billion rupiah or about US$17.4 million, according to a pres release from the Penitentiary Directorate General or Dirjen PAS of the Justice and Human Rights Ministry. (***)
