Durian. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a meeting at 10 Downing Street, London on Thursday, 21 Nov. 2024, marking the two countries 75-years of the two countries bilateral relations.
The 75th anniversary of the two countries bilateral relationship is under the theme “People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace”.
The two leaders issued a joint statement after the summit, saying that they agreed to strengthen and revitalize the relationship through “a new deeper Strategic Partnership” in the future that will be launched in 2025.
“We committed to drive economic growth to a level commensurate with the size of economies…agreed to work more closely together to address global challenges,” the statement said.
The scope of the future bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UK include issues related with energy transition.
“We will lead by example in pursuing a just and fair energy transition, cutting carbon emissions while protecting our natural environments and ensuring economic development”, the two leaders stated.
On the new Indonesia-UK’s Strategic Partnership, both countries agreed to work on sustainable economic growth and human development, in which this has six main aspects including to increase trade and investment, advancing energy transition and strategic sustainable industries as well as defence industrial cooperation.
The new strategic partnership platform will also include cooperations on defence and foreign policy as well as climate change, energy transition and sustainable development. (***)
