Durian. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in on Jan. 13 ensured that China will work together with Indonesia and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to protect peace and stability at South China Sea.
China and Asean will work ‘’to fully and effectively implement the DOC [declaration of conduct] and actively and steadily advance the COC [code of conduct] consultation’’, Wang said Jakarta after meeting his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, during his two-day state visit to Indonesia.
‘’…and together build regional rules that are in line with international law and are effective and substantive to protect the South China Sea’s peace and stability,’’ he added.
In the two ministers’ bilateral meeting, Minister Marsudi has told Minister Wang on the importance to maintain regional peace and stability particularly at South China Sea.
‘’I underline the importance to ensure a peaceful and stable South China Sea. To achieve this, there is only one option, all countries must respect and uphold international laws, including UNCLOS 1982,’’ Marsudi said after their meeting, reaffirmed Indonesia’s stance.
Marsudi also touched the issue of the implementation of Asean’s Indo-Pacific Outlook as the regional organization commitment to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Asean has 10 member states, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
