Durian. The Indonesia-Japan Environmental Week (EJEW) 2021, hosted by Indonesia’s Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) and Japan’s Environment Ministry, was kicked off on Jan.13, marking with policy dialog, led by ministers from the two countries.
EJEW was held previously in 2014 and 2018 in Indonesia, but for due to covid-19 pandemic, this year event should be done virtual. The event will be ended on Jan.15.
Japan Environment Minister Koizumi Shinjiro in his opening remarks said that 2021 policy dialog and IJEW can improve bilateral relations between Japan and Indonesia. The two countries in the meeting also discussed about contribution to regional and global communities such as at ASEAN and G-20.
After the opening ceremony, the two ministers held bilateral meeting where Minister Koizume expressed his hope for deepening cooperation in climate change, marine waste and handling mercury issues.
While from Indonesia, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya expected cooperation with Japan on promoting national parks and other conservation areas, besides on pollution, hazardous waste management, sustainable lake management and environmental law enforcement and .#
‘’I have seen with my own eyes how popular national parks in Japan among domestic and international tourists. Therefore, I am waiting for cooperation on it in the future,’’ Minister Nurbaya said.
