Durian. Indonesian Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo resigned from his post after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him as suspect in a graft case on marine and fisheries license.
The politician of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) has also announced his resignation as deputy chairman of the party.
“I will resign from my position as deputy chairman, and I also resign from my position as minister,” Prabowo said in KPK headquarter in South Jakarta on Nov.26.
President Joko Widodo has assigned Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan as ad interim Marine Affairs and Fisheries minister following the legal case development.
Previously, on Nov.25, Prabowo was arrested by KPK over alleged receiving bribe related to lobster seed export policy. Six other individuals were also announced as suspects for being recipients in the bribe that involved a potential lobster seed exporter.
Besides announcing his resignation, Prabowo also said he would be cooperative during this legal process, as well as issuing apology to the “betrayed” marine and fisheries communities.
