Durian. Indonesia and Norway will cooperate on sustainable marine aquaculture project aiming to lift the export of multicultural marine products that could suit market demand in the future, the Indonesian Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) said on Sept.29.
“As one of the world’s largest aquaculture producers, Indonesia still has huge potential to be developed particularly from [marine] multicultural sector,” Slamet Soebjakto, director general of fishery cultivation at the ministry said in a statement.
Norway has dozen years of experience that has turned the country into one of the world’s biggest marine multicultural producers was one of considerations for the cooperation, Soebjakto said.
Indonesia itself has developed various marine communities such as seaweed, white snapper and star pomfret. There are many other marine commodities that need to be developed in the future such as shells.
Norwegian ambassador to Indonesia Vegard Kaale on Sept.29 in Jakarta said that Norway is ready to become an Indonesia’s partner in order to develop marine multicultural industry.
