Landslides Kill Five Villagers in Indonesia’s Banyumas Regency

Durian. Torrential rains have triggered landslides in two villages in Banyumas regency in Indonesia’s Central Java on Nov.17, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Raditya Jati said.

Four bodies have been taken from the disaster sites while evacuation process is ongoing, conducted by rescuers from various institutions including from the Police and the Military, to find another victim, Jati said in a statement on Nov.17 evening.

It’s hard to reach the disaster locations as the landslides have cut access of the main road.

There are 22 districts have high risk of landslide in Banyumas regency, according to analysis from InaRISK, a web portal that provides disaster risks analysis all over Indonesia, the spokesperson said.

“While according to weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Sumpiuh district [in Banyumas] will have light to high intensity of rainfall from 18-19 of November,” Jati said.

Besides landslide, high intensity rainfall could trigger flood.
