US Donates Ventilator to Indonesia to Handle Covid-19 Pandemic

Durian. The government of the United States of America has handed over its donation in the form of ventilators to the government of Indonesia on July 28 in a symbolic ceremony at Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the symbolic handover ceremony of 100 Vyaire ventilators from US to Indonesia was “a concrete realization” following the phone call of President Donald Trump and President Joko Widodo on April 24.

“I was informed that in total, there will be 1,000 ventilators from the U.S. delivered to Indonesia in separate batches throughout August,” Minister Marsudi said.

She also extended appreciation on behalf of the people and the government of Indonesia for the assistance from the U.S. government to handle covid-19 pandemic.

Besides donating ventilators, the U.S. government will support Indonesia with total roughly $11 million, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Heather Variava said during the ceremony.

“The United States is providing access to medical supplies and ventilators to Indonesia to fight covid-19. Produced by Vyaire Medical, the 100 ventilators we are delivering today will give Indonesia greater flexibility in treating patients with covid-19,” she said.

The deliverance of ventilators assistance to Indonesia are through United States Agencies for International Development (USAID).

“This donation of ventilators reflects our lasting commitment to partnership with the government and the people of Indonesia to save lives and work toward the safe reopening of the Indonesian economy,” Variava said.

Symbolically Variava has handed over the donation of ventilators to Secretary General of Indonesian Health Ministry Oscar Primadi and witnessed by Minister Marsudi and Secretary General of Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Cecep Herawan.

“Going forward Indonesia and the U.S. will continue to strengthen our Strategic Partnership not only to mitigate covid-19 but also to prevent future pandemics and to provide support for regional and global health governance,” Minister Marsudi said.
