Durian. Indonesia managed to book US$10.43 million worth of transactions in fisheries during the recent Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), an increase of 7.26% from the same event last year.

“The transactions were dominated by canned fish (products), tuna, nile tilapia, prawns, octopus, squid, silver catfish, skipjack tuna, seaweed, eel, and fish chilli condiment,” Agus Suherman from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said in a statement on Monday.

Further, Agus explained that the buyers came from at least 25 countries including Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Mexico, the U.K., Japan, South Korea, Canada, India, Spain, and Turkey.

The ministry’s Indonesian Seafood Pavilion helped promote 12 local businesses during the trade expo.

“The participation of these Indonesian fishery businesses at the 2019 TEI is part of the ministry’s strategic efforts to promote quality fishery products, build and strengthen networks with buyers, as well as to generate Indonesian seafood exports,” Agus said.

In 2018, Indonesia ranked 12 in global seafood exports with a value of US$4.8 billion. The country has seen an average 1.66% raise per year in its fishery sector since 2014. Prawns, tuna, skipjack tuna, crabs, and squid are among the popular products exported to mainly the U.S., Japan, European Union, China, and ASEAN countries.
