Indonesian Announces Ramadan Starts on March 23

Durian. Indonesian government through the Religious Affairs Ministry on Wednesday announced that first Ramadan month of 1444 Hijri calendar will be on Thursday, March 23, marking the first day of fasting month for Muslim across the country.

Religious Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas announced it at the Ministry in Jakarta, after receiving monitoring results from experts, including from the National Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

One month fasting in Ramadan month is an obligatory for Muslims across the globe.

After the announcement, Muslims in Indonesia started their tarawih prayers in mosques including at the Grand Mosque Istiqlal in Jakarta.
