Durian. Military and police personnel from Nemangkawi Task Force had exchanged of fires with a criminal armed group (KKB) led by Sabinus Waker in Intan Jaya regency in Indonesia’s Papua which one gunmen was killed and another arrested on Oct.26, the National Police (Polri) said on Oct.27.
“There were 50 gunmen suspected from KKB involved in the fight against TNI (the Military)-Polri’s joint security team, Brig.Gen. Awi Setiono, a spokesperson of Polri said in Jakarta.
According to Setiono, Sabinus Waker group called themselves as Kemabu group. It is suspected has recruited young people from the society including minors.
“This group has poisoned Papuan teen’s minds, recruited and armed them to be used as life shields to make them able to escape security officers,” Setiono said.
In 2015, the group had killed a police from Mobile Brigade, police said.
Separately, administrator of Timika Catholic diocese issued a statement on Oct.27 saying one of the church’s catechists named Rufinus Tigau was killed in a shooting incident in Sugapa district, Intan Jaya regency on Oct.26.
Pastor Marthen Kuayo, administrator of the diocese explained in the statement that Tigau become a chatecist since 2015 and the last was assigned at Jalae mission in Intan Jaya.
On Oct.7, another catechist Agustinus Duwitau from Emondi mission was also shot and he is still under medical treatment for his founds.
“Accusation that Rufinus (Tigau) was involved in separatist movement or armed group is not true. Currently Timika diocese is preparing report and chronology related with the shooting incident that causes Rufinus death,” Kuayo said.
