Indonesia & Australia Agree to Fight Misinformation and Disinformation

Durian. Indonesia and Australia will work together in overcoming misinformation and disinformation from spreading in public that has potential threats to harm a nation’s stability.

The issue was discussed during Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) between Indonesia’s delegation, led by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud M.D. and Australia’s delegation, led by Home Affairs Minister and Cyber Security Minister Clare O’Neil in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday.

Minister Mahfud highlighted misinformation and disinformation can potentially harm the unity of a nation if it is not overcome and continuous happening, while sharing Indonesia’s example on that matter.

The two delegations also discussed about terrorism and cross border security issues, in which according to Minister Mahfud, terrorism has become a latent threat globally.

In cyber security field,  both countries agreed to improve their cooperation by increasing bilateral cooperation, exchanging experiences and good practices.
