Durian. Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry said it specifically targets millennials in developing the country’s mangrove ecosystem to become the next favorite tourism destination.
The newly-appointed Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said he’d used the experience and knowledge during his time as Jakarta deputy governor to optimize mangrove ecosystem’s huge potential for tourism, which is especially favored by young tourists.
“We have [related] experiences of developing mangrove-planting tourism in Kepulauan Seribu [Thousand Islands] and in North Jakarta. The governance of mangrove ecosystem will focus on making it one of the many tourist destinations, which is particularly preferred by millennials,” Uno said on Jan.11.
And in order to spoil the tourists, Uno planned to put forward a modern approach in presenting mangrove tourism. One of the plans is by providing interesting spots to share on social media, such as Instagram and Tiktok, which still showcases local cultures.
Besides its tourism potential, the government also plans to accelerate the creative economy sector in mangrove ecosystem by, for example, promoting local cuisine and crafts.
