Indonesian AGO Building Caught on Fire, Case Documents and Detainees Secured

Durian. A building inside Indonesian Attorney General’s Office (AGO) compound in South Jakarta was caught on fire on Aug.22 evening and firefighters have been working to extinguish the fire.

It is the main building which was protected under Jakarta’s heritage buildings where several units were located.

Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin ensured that all case files and detainees are secured.

“Case documents are at Oval building, office of deputy attorney general for general crimes and office of deputy attorney general for special crimes. Case files and detainees are secured,” Burhanuddin said on the fire scene on Aug.22 evening.

He said detainees will be evacuated when smoke reaches cells.

Main building was using for intelligence, human resources and human development units.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria arrived on Aug.22 evening at the fire scene to monitor extinguish process directly.

At least 120 firefighters and 23 fire trucks have been deployed to extinguish the fire, Kompas TV reported.

State news agency Antara reported the fire started from 6th floor at the building.

No casualty is reported since it’s a long weekend in Indonesia since Aug.20.
