Pertamina Prioritizing to Extinguish Fire at Fuel Storage

Durian. Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina said in a press statement on late Friday night that its priority is to extinguish at integrated fuel storage in Plumpang, North Jakarta.

The fire broke around 8pm Jakarta time and has yet extinguished until the early Saturday morning.

It also focuses in evacuating those who are affected the flames, according to CEO of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati in the statement.

The company ensures that fuel stocks are safe and its distribution won’t be affected by the incident with back supply from nearby storage in Tanjung Gerem, Cikampek and Ujung Berung as well as backup from Cilacap and Balongan refineries.

Pertamina also established an investigation team to find the cause of the fire and to conduct internal evaluation to prevent the similar incident from happening in the future.

However, there is no information provided by the company about the number of casualties caused by the fire. From various data collected, at least six people dead and dozens others are injured. The injured victims have been taken to several hospitals near the incident scene.
