Durian. Nestlé Indonesia commemorated World Chef’s Day by inviting Jakarta elementary school students to introduce them to healthy eating patterns to understand the benefits of nutrients for the body, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

‘How Healthy Food Works’ was a collaboration between Nestlé Indonesia and the Association of Culinary Professionals Indonesia (ACPI).

During the events, students were involved in discussions on nutrients and impacts of healthy foods on the body. Guided cooking activities by chefs from ACPI were also incorporated in the event.

“We believe that introducing a healthy and active lifestyle must begin early, through education and by inviting children to apply this knowledge in their daily lives. Therefore, we involve students in the process of selecting and processing food ingredients, cooking, and serving them in an interesting and interactive way, so that these activities can be practiced daily,” said Nestlé Indonesia Corporate Affairs Director Debora Tjandrakusuma.

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Association of Culinary Professionals (ACPI) Chef Sabir Mappakaya explained that chefs have the responsibility to share insights about healthy food with the wider community.

Child psychologist Saskhya Aulia Prima said that children need to be accustomed to eating healthy, by building a child’s eating routine early on with family without distraction, using attractive packaging, and involving children in healthy food exploration activities, such as cooking and gardening.
