Durian. Eka Tjipta Widjaja, a prominent Indonesian businessman, has passed away on Saturday (26/1) evening at age 98.
He died at his residence in Central Jakarta peacefully and his remain will be burried next week.
The founder of Sinar Mas Group was the third richest Indonesian with total wealth of $8.6 billion, according to Forbes’ Indonesia’s 50 Richest that was published in December 2018.
Born in mainland China, Eka migrated in 1930s to Indonesia with his mother to join his father whom arrived in the region earlier and resided in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
His orignal business was related to palm oil industry and has been developing to other sectors such as pulp and paper as well as infrastructure. Sinar Mas was established in 1962.
