Durian. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono is scheduled to make an official visit to Pyongyang on 10 and 11 October 2025, aimed to show the commintement of Indonesia’s global cooperation and partnership and to meet the invitation from North Korean.Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui.
A Spokesperson of the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Yvonne Mewengkang told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday, 9 Oct. 2025, the visit of FM Sugiono to Pyongyang is based on the invitation from his North Korea’s counterpart FM Choe Son-hui.
“Mr. Foreign Minister will conduct an official visit to Pyongyang on 10 to 11 October to meet the invitation from North Korea’s Foreign Minister. And on 11 October, Mr. Foreign Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with North Korea’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Choe Son-hui,” Mawengkang said.
In the bilateral meeting, the two ministers are expected to discuss on strengthening bilateral relation, regional and global issues, she explained.
“This visit reaffirm Indonesia’s commitment towards constructive dialog and cooperation and partnership with many parties in the region,” Mawengkang added.
The official visit of FM Sugiono to North Korea will be the first in 13 years of a high rank official from Indonesia after FM Marty Natalegawa in 2013.
In September 2024, North Korea’s Deputy Foreign Minister Park Sang Gi visited Indonesia and was welcomed by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Mansury.
FM Sugiono is also scheduled to visit the Embassy of Indonesia in Pyongyang that was reopened in June this year after its closure in April 2021, following the Covid-19 pandemic. (***)
