Durian. Indonesia launches a new initiative called “BUMN Go Global” or  State-owned Enterprises Go Global to support the country’s economic growth target to be positive in 2020 and in the future as well as to change global supply chain that can put the country in the position as supplier and not only as market place.

The launching of SOEs Go Global initiative was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises on July 17 in Jakarta.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the memorandum was drafted within one week and covid-19 pandemic contributes to the speedy process.

Covid-19 pandemic also makes the country realize its ability as producer of many products including health and medical items, she said.

“We are able to work beyond business as usual. We realize that we must seize the momentum,” Minister Marsudi said in her remarks prior to the signing of the cooperation agreement.

The actual measure that will be taken immediately after the signing of the agreement is to set a joint team that will assist future steps to expand the market of Indonesia’s SOEs globally, she added.

For the first phase, Indonesia will promote health and medical products in global market.

“We want to participate to fix global supply chain. All this time, we know that we only become [global] market. We have acquired several companies abroad for a simple purpose which to fix our supply chain,” Erick Tohir, State-owned Enterprises Minister said.

He explained that Indonesia has two superiorities – having huge market and abundant natural resources – but also need to improve in logistic and technology sectors.

Tohir said the effort for Indonesian SEOs to go global is according to President Joko Widodo that the country future diplomacy should not only focus on political part but also to develop its footprints to be in the side of business minded.

Indonesia is a member of G-20 group and it has been trying hard to keep 2020 annual economic growth still in the positive line despite global economic recession due to covid-19 pandemic.
