Durian. Indonesia’s ruling party the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) on Friday announced Ganjar Pranowo, currently Central Java governor, to become the party’s presidential candidate for upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Magawati Sukarnoputri, the chairperson of the party who is also the founder made the announcement accompanied by President Joko Widodo as one of the party’s cadres, House Speaker Puan Maharani as one of the PDI-P’s officials and Prananda Prabowo, another official of the party who is Megawati first son as well as the Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.
The announcement was made at a historical site in Batutulis, Bogor in West Java when Indonesia is commemorating Kartini Day, a national day to honor women rights struggle.
“Deciding Ganjar Pranowo who is currently Central Java governor, as a party’s cadre and officer to be uplifted for assignment as a presidential candidate from the PDI-P,” Megawati stated.
She ordered all party’s supporters to work together to win Ganjar’s presidency.
Through the announcement, two presidential candidates have been announced for 2024’s presidential election. Previously, the National Democratic (Nasdem) Party announced Anies Baswedan, former Jakarta governor, as its presidential candidate. After the announcement, other political parties the Democratic Party and the Justice Prosperous Party (PKS) gave their supports to the candidate.
